I think the best way to start this blog is to give my readers some background information.
My name is Marieta Krüger and I am the owner of my own business, Afisclear.
I was an active member in the SAPS for 17 years before I decided to move on, start my own thing and spend more time with my family. However when I was still in the SAPS I worked on several SAPS systems including "crim check" system.
The biggest problem with this system however, are you feed an ID nr into the system and get a return. Now you will most probable ask me, now what is wrong with that.
The problem with this is the fact that you can not determine if the ID number given to you belongs to the person presenting it.
Let me try explain it in another way. Any person searching a database can only search the item against what is loaded on that database if that makes better sense.
To overcome this hurdle SAPS has decided that in future the only way the database can be access will be by finger print identification which is much more accurate.
Every person and company can say we did a crim check on a person before we employed him. As I said who say that that specific ID number belongs to that person.
SAPS came up with a brilliant concept. Block all ID checks and crim checks or access to it off their systems and outsource the function to private entity.
If you need to see proof letters, government gazettes I will gladly supply you with the relevant info.

Protect your business - South Africa
In today's world it is with sadness to face the fact that more and more business get targeted by crime syndicates. It is expected from companies to protect their own as more and more pressure is placed on law enforcement agencies with the out flux of experience and skilled staff to private sector is in the order of the day.
I am of the opinion that law enforcement has several successful initiatives in place but they just don't get every where.
It will become the norm in South Africa that business will have to do more and more in the fight against crime and protecting the bottom line of their businesses.
With this in mind more and more non core function will be outsourced to private sector.
Surely the private sector will grab these opportunities as the law enforcement agencies will get their focus back.
